Bose Brings Game-Changing Technology To NFL Sidelines

New Bose® Headset for Coaches Makes Regular Season Debut

September 3, 2014 -- Today, Bose Corporation’s new headset for the NFL makes its regular season debut during Kickoff weekend at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington. Designed, engineered and manufactured by Bose, it’s the first active noise cancelling headset for the league, and will be used by all teams, coaches and staff to improve critical sideline and booth communication.

“We had to meet the demanding requirements of the NFL and its coaches,” said Bob Maresca, CEO and president of Bose Corporation. “Play calls and instant replays need to be communicated in stadiums filled with thunderous noise, and that’s where Bose technology can really make a difference. Our headset for coaches delivers great noise reduction and clear audio in a rugged design that can take a beating. It’s not just a new headset for Bose -- it’s an entirely new kind of headset for the league.”

“We’re excited to start the 2014 season with Bose helping to evolve the game through superior technology,” said Brian Rolapp, EVP of NFL Media. “Coaches and teams have already experienced the difference Bose technology makes during the preseason, and we look forward to continuing to integrate that technology throughout the regular season.”

The new Bose headset for the NFL benefits from over 30 years of ongoing research and integrates the design and technology used in the company’s military and aviation headsets. It first measures and identifies unwanted sounds, and then calculates and produces an equal and opposite signal -- thousands of times per second. Rumbling stadium noise -- which can reach 130 decibels -- is dramatically reduced, and communication becomes clear and audible.

The new Bose® headset for the NFL comes in dual-or single-earcup models and includes a control module that houses the power management circuitry. Its angled earcups position the headband and boom microphone for optimal performance, and its lightweight design stays secure and comfortable -- from regulation to overtime.

To withstand the extreme conditions of the NFL season, the Bose headset features weather-resistant materials exhaustively tested in Bose labs to mimic game environments, including snow storms, drenching rain, gusting high-winds, and temperatures ranging from the heat in Miami, to the cold in Green Bay.

Bose: “The Official Sound of the NFL”
Bose extended its relationship with the NFL in March 2014 to become “The Official Headphone and Headset of the NFL.” Bose now is able to use three designations: “The Official Sound of the NFL,” “The Official Headphone and Headset of the NFL,” and “The Official Home Audio and Speaker Sponsor of the NFL.”
